    The 114th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota

    KATHMANDU: The 114th birth anniversary of Mahakavi (great poet laureate) of Nepali literature, Laxmi Prasad Devkota, is being marked by organizing various programs in the country and abroad today.

    Devkota is one of the most influential and acclaimed poets of Nepali literature.

    Poet laureate Devkota, born on Kartik 27, 1966 BS, on the auspicious day of Laxmi Puja of the Tihar festival has contributed a lot to modern Nepali literature with several masterpieces.

    He also contributed to internationalizing the Nepali language and literature. Shakuntala, Sulochana, Maharanapartap and some others are his famous literary creations.

    Similarly, Devkota’s Munamadan is the most popular piece in Nepali literature.

    Poet Devkota played a vital role to make the Nepali language mandatory in the school curriculum when he served as the Education Minister.

    Poet laureate Devkota also contributed a lot to establishing then Royal Nepal Academy.

    He passed away on Bhadra 29, 2016 BS.

    KATHMANDU: Commemorating the contribution of the first elected Prime Minister of the country Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, the 40th BP Memorial Day is being celebrated today with various programs across the country.

    Koirala, who fought hard for the establishment of democracy in Nepal, died on 6th Shrawan, 2039 BS.

    He has also made a significant contribution to the field of Nepali literature. Koirala was born on Bhadra 24, 1971 BS.

    He became the first elected Prime Minister in Jetha 2016 after the parliamentary elections of 2015 BS.

    Koirala, who led the Congress for a long period of his life and became the first elected Prime Minister after the party won two-thirds majority in the 2015 BS general elections, provided political leadership for the establishment of nationalism, democracy and socialism in Nepal.

    On 1st Poush 2017, after the popularly elected government was overthrown by the then King with support of the Royal Nepali Army, Koirala and other leaders were imprisoned.

    After analyzing that the nationalism was weakened while in exile in India and the need to fight for the restoration of democracy, Koirala returned to Nepal with the policy of national unity and reconciliation on 16 Poush 2033 regardless. Khabarhub

    Rawal seeks PM’s explanation for not using Nepal’s latest map

    KATHMANDU: Influential leader of ruling CPN-UML’s disgruntled faction, Dr. Bhim Rawal, has urged Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Oli to explain why the government has not been using the Nepal’s map with Limpiyadhura officially.

    Commenting on the use of erroneous map of Nepal in the medals and emblems distributed by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Dr. Rawal, on his social media twitter, demanded the government’s clarification for doing so.

    “The prime minister should respond immediately the intention of not including Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani areas of Darchula district in the map of Nepal,” he said, asking, “Is this avoided deliberately as per the PM’s agreement the foreign spies made during the latest visit at Baluwatar?” Source:Khabarhub

    NC leader Gagan Thapa invites PM Oli to HoR

    KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Thapa has challenged Prime Minister KP Oli to be present at the House of Representatives (HoR), in today’s meeting of the Parliament.

    Thapa extended the invitation in order to discuss and debate on the works completed by the government in its three years of governance.

    He said, “I invite you to the HoR to hold a debate session based on facts and statistics.”

    Prime Minister KP Oli was scheduled to present the annual reports of Madhesi Commission and Tharu Commission of the fiscal year 2076/77 in the meeting.

    Meanwhile, the HoR meeting also passed the condolence motion on the demise of former Minister of State for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Aishwarya Lal Pradhananga who passed away at the age of 96 on April 2.

    NEB to conduct SEE from May 27

    KATHMANDU: The National Examination Board (NEB) has decided to hold the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) of the year 2077 BS from May 27.

    A meeting of the NEB held recently decided to conduct the examinations from May 27 until June 7.

    According to Durga Prasad Aryal, the member secretary of the NEB, the date of the SEE has been fixed in line with the decision of the cabinet meeting.

    A cabinet meeting held on February 9 had directed the NEB to conduct SEE in collaboration with provincial governments.

    The results of the SEE last year had been issued based on the internal evaluations of the respective schools.

    COVID-19: Nepal records 78 fresh cases, tally hits 2,74,143

    Nepal recorded a total of 78 new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the coronavirus tally reached 2,74,143 in the country as of Sunday afternoon.

    Likewise, the Ministry shared that now the country has 962 reported active cases of the virus. In the past 24 hours, altogether 82 have recovered from the coronavirus infection in the country.

    So far, 2,70,407 people have recovered from the coronavirus infection in the country. Similarly, the ministry shared that one new fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,774.

    KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Prajwal Pokharel, 18, from Rupandehi on the charge of creating a fake Facebook page of the Cyber Bureau.

    According to SSP Navinda Aryal, he was arrested after the District Court, Kathmandu granted him permission to investigate under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063 BS.

    According to Aryal, Pokhrel was trying to take financial advantage by creating a fake police page.

    17 people died of the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Nepal

    KATHMANDU: A total of 17 people died of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Nepal.

    According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the coronavirus death toll has reached 904 as of Thursday afternoon with the new deaths.

    Meanwhile, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally has reached 164,718 as of Thursday afternoon after 2,634 persons tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, altogether 9,769 sample tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours.

    A total of 3,038 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 124,862 in the country. Nepal currently has 38,952 active cases. Likewise, 2,689 people are in quarantine facilities across the country at present.
